Don Jon’s look at Offseason AFC EAST

Hello this is Don Jon here to share my insights on the free agency for each team in SML Primer. This is strictly looking at the teams roster only, this is not a reflection on the owners themselves.

AFC East

Bills: Crazy to think that Josh Allen has regressed this bad at a ripe age of 33. If there’s anything that this team does not need it is a QB. Peter Keaton has great accuracy and a cannon for an arm. James Cook is an elite RB with great abilities that make her stand out. When it comes to receivers, don’t expect them to burn anyone on the field but they still have the ability to make plays on the field and one could argue that they use stick-em on their gloves. The O-Line is okay nothing to write home about, with the right play calls and that elite QB, they can get rid of the ball before the defense gets to the QB. Gonna need a lot of help on defense though. Only Greg Rousseau poses a threat, everyone else not so much.

Don Jon’s Fortune Cookie says: You want to win games and stand a chance? Invest in defense. Pass Rush means if the opponent can get rid of the ball fast. If there is a DB in the FA that looks good I say go for him and then draft an edge rusher to compliment Rousseau. Or you can sign an edge rusher and then draft a DB. DO NOT THINK ABOUT DRAFTING ANOTHER RECEIVER.

Dolphins

Sometimes you can only players in real life can be the same as Madden. Anthony Richardson is elite! Has all the physicals and accuracy stats to make him a stud! The name of their offensive game is speed. Achane 96 speed, Waddle 97 speed, you need to pray that the O line can give you enough time to allow Waddle to burn the DBs or Achane to run past everyone on a HB stretch plays. But, that’s about all I can say about the offense. Too many holes to fill, but thankfully that’s what the offseason is for. On the defensive side there’s more optimism there. Their D Line, they might as well say we want all the D Linemen because they have so many. Line Backers are mostly on the older side but old age comes wisdom. The DBs are anchored by Minkah Fitzpatrick, but at 31 his entering possibly his final year in his prime. If he wants a ring he better hope that the Dolphins win this year or trade him.

Don Jon’s Fortune Cookie says: It’s tough to gauge where you are without knowing what picks you have or the cap space. But I would say focus on drafting more then FA. You want younger and cheaper players. If possible maybe trade Fitzpatrick for more picks or players.

Jets

J E T S SUCK SUCK SUCK. Only in real life though lol. Dakota Fitzsimmons is Dan Marino reincarnate. Call me old school but I prefer a QB that can just sit in the pocket and just launch it. Plus with that O Line who needs to scramble? The only player who should be running in the backfield is the running back. Speaking of Running backs, Breece Hall is an elite running back, just need better receivers to make this offense unstoppable. Defensively, it needs a bit of work. D Linemen are young and can easily be developed, Linebackers, if you want to stop the pass in the middle of the field you’re going to need to invest in them. Sauce Gardner is still an elite DB even if he crashed and burned in real life.

Don Jon’s Fortune Cookie says: Listen their offense is going to be elite once you get better receivers. They can either win by outscoring their opponent and pray that the defense gets a stop or two. But depending on what the draft class looks like I’d look for a decent linebacker

Patriots

First off I’m sure they were joking about swapping QBs, but in case they weren’t joking Carlos Bautista is a great QB, stick with him. Their receivers are really good, got a decent O-line, HB could be better. Their defense might as well be called the NFLs retirement home because they are OLD. I feel like they are going to need a walker to help them go anywhere at their age.

Don Jon’s Fortune Cookie says: if you’re going to spend on Free Agents, spend on young players or offense. Draft younger players.
