Don Jon’s draft preview

Hello everyone. Tonight’s the draft night at SML Primer and everyone has been anticipating this night since either their team mathematically got eliminated or in BWO’s case won the SB. I consulted with my ancient ancestors and they believe teams should be drafting which position. Why position and not players? They are AI generated and they do not stand with AI.

AFC East

Bills: Gil surprised everyone this season with the amount of wins he earned. That’s right earned, not win. With that being said, looking at his squad currently on NeonSportz as of the writing of this post, he did really well, or if you are a pessimist you could say he overachieved. Losing James Cook was a huge blow to the team but the thing about running backs in Madden, they are one of the easier positions to replace, and unless theres a RB that is a sure fire elite player, Gil can find a good replacement in the later rounds. Looking at his team I recommend drafting a corner as that is the weakest position on his team. all of them no higher then 84 ovr and there’s no one that can keep up with the top receivers in the game. HOWEVER I also recommend if there is an elite speed wide receiver, he should draft that player as well. he has two wide receivers over 90 ovr, but they are not burners. In fact there are no burners on his offense. As much as we hate speed cheesers, you still need speed to at least scare people into game planning around them.

Dolphins: Before the change in owners I had them picked to win it all or at least challenge the Texans. What hasn’t changed is how solid this roster is. Anthony Richardson is still an elite QB, same with Achane. Waddle is getting up there in age but is still an elite WR. Both the O line and the D line is very strong, really the defense is not the main concern. What they really need is a brand new TE as they only have one on the roster and he is more of a blocking TE.

Jets: Cutting Garrett Wilson was an interesting choice, however they needed to address missing holes on their squad and the cap space that was freed up for it justifies the move. I also liked how they did not resign their QB. I have maintained this feeling that unless the QB’s asking price is not outrageous and has decent abilities, you are better off not resigning and drafting a new QB. I do believe his current QBs are good enough to get through this season and he can draft another one next year if there is no one he likes. He really should focus on D line or linebackers. I reccommend D line as they can stop the run and apply great pressure on the QB, at least that is what they should be doing.

Patriots: Gotta make this fast before ZBD hacks into my system and murders Smokey in his sleep for what he has done to his team. offensively it looks he is going to bring back 2011 version of the Pats with their monster TE duo he has and his WRs are nothing to sneeze at. D line and CBs are not bad either so he really should focus on linebackers for the upcoming draft. For the love god please do not let ZBD know what Smokey is doing, I’m starting to fear that he will hack Primer and bring everything down.

AFC North

Bengals: Joe Burrow is elite, but he is starting to get older. They may have to start thinking about drafting his eventual replacement. Really that’s the theme for this team, great starters, but no plan B. If there was a position that I needed to pick it would be edge rusher, they are in need of that. Otherwise find another player that can serve as a great back up for a season and then explode as a starter in the future.

Browns: Brother, Luke with money is like leaving a hyperactive ten year old in a candy store and was told everything was free. I would recommend upping his secondary or his linebackers, but that d line is going to feast any opposing QBs that it would not matter. Thankfully that is not his most glaring need. He really needs a new QB bad. He has three QBs all back ups at best. Does not matter if his first is low, whoever he drafts will already be better than who he has.

Ravens: The previous owner messed up bad signing Lamar to his current contract and did not think that much for the future. No money = no moves. If o line mattered then draft that position. If AJ goes for WR that’s fine too. Really any pick he makes is infinitely times better then what the previous owner did.

Steelers: On paper they have a really good team, they just cannot seem to win. Normally I would say draft for the future as they have many aging players. But Jeshoo’s most glaring need is a QB. However I recommend that if there’s no one he really likes at QB he could draft down to a QB needy team and get more picks and build up for the future. You play to win the championship, however it is okay to think about the year after if you have a set plan.

AFC South

Colts: There is a lot of needs on this team that I am afraid that won’t be solved in one draft. Thankfully the one position they don’t need is D line, that is their greatest strength. Normally I would say draft a QB, but that’s meaningless if you don’t have an O line to protect him. If they can build up an o line via FA then by all means draft a QB. Otherwise he is better off drafting a LB or a RB.

Jags: Maybe it is because I just saw how much the Colts and the Ravens needs are, but I do think Jags are in a good position to be a contender next season after this draft. Offense they are set, maybe use their 3rd or 4th round picks to find solid backups. To truly make the D line as elite as the Browns, draft a really good DT that should be Daz’s main priority.

Texans: Honestly anything Steel does is going to end up working out for him. So I am not going to go into a lot of detail on about this team. Either find a better o lineman to help better protect Stroud or can open bigger lanes for his RB Greer to run.

Titans: Iconic has a pretty solid defense all things considered. Great QB and great RB. His main needs are O line, WR and CBs. Looking at his stats offense was not that big of an issue for him. Top five passing but near the bottom in rushing. However his defense is ranked closer to the bottom. Based on that I recommend drafting a CB first and then focus on offense.

AFC West

Broncos: Jalen Hurts is bad and you should feel bad. Okay with that out of the way this team has a lot of needs on offense and on defense, players getting older and will need to replace them sooner or later. Right now unless they find an o-linemen via FA, Majors is going to have to draft a tackle to protect….Hurts…

Chargers: Winning the Diego Garay sweepstakes is a huge boost for MLDogs. I’m hoping this is what he needed to be elite. Joining I expected great things, I was wrong, unless he was intentionally tanking. With that said I recommend drafting a CB only if he truly does not care about O line. If he does care then draft o line.

Chiefs: I want nothing more then to witness the downfall of Patrick Mahomes. With that said, their defense is set so there is no need to focus on that. Tomato should focus on WRs. As of this post he only has two. The player does not have to be the fastest as long as he has Worthy. Draft a WR and then a TE and he is set.

Raiders: Quite possibly the best offense squad on paper. I wouldn’t even attempt to think about where to improve. Defense it’s easier to spot the needs. With Maxx Crosby retiring it’s pretty easy to figure out that they need to draft a Edge rusher.

NFC East

Commanders: What is there to say about them? They have great players, and no real glaring issues roster wise. He might want to look into DBs this draft though. That is probably his weakest position at the moment.

Cowboys: IRL Cowboys have an elite offense but trash defense. The Cowboys in Primer have elite defense but trash offense. Okay that’s not entirely true. Their offense is actually decent. They have an elite QB, great RB, and a decent WR corps. With that said their o line is atrocious. I understand people here believe O line doesn’t matter. But you still need a blocker to last a few seconds. I’m not going to pick which o linemen to draft any will do.

Eagles: This team is statistically the best defense in Primer. I wouldn’t even address the defense and leave them as it is. Offense was ranked the bottom of the list, but with their defense I don’t think NYT will be losing any sleep. Probably because of key o linemen retiring they are in need in that position so that’s what I recommend. Like the Cowboys, any would do.

Giants: Having a 99 ovr QB and RB, and a 98 ovr WR can help make any offense look elite. I’m not going to recommend anything on offense. Their defense is very good but they are getting old. I recommend an edge rusher as they don’t have a solid Right edge rusher, but if they want to focus on the future then a linebacker.

NFC North

Bears: statistically the best offense in the game and for a good reason. Their offense is stacked. Defense isn’t that bad either. Linebackers are old and DBs aren’t that great. I recommend DBs to at least slow down the opponents passing game.

Lions: At the beginning of the cycle the Lions had the best offense roster wise, my how times have changed. Don’t get me wrong it’s still a good offense, just not what it once was. Now despite saying this I am NOT recommending offense improvements. The defense is a greater need. Yes Juice had one of the top defenses last season, but the DBs are pretty slow and their linebackers are just ehh. Focus on those two positions this draft and they’ll be a threat to the Bears.

Packers: Great defense last season, not so great offense. The offense roster looks great so I don’t know what is wrong. I don’t think drafting another offensive player is going to help him very much. I do think CB will help him out more. Does speed matter? to an extent but it’s hard to play defense when your DBs keeps getting burned.

Vikings: Ranked bottom on defense, but is also ranked one of the best offenses in this league. Here is where I think Krayzie can either draft offense or defense first round and I’d be okay with it. It’s really more of what does he want to address more, now or the future? If now he will need to focus on a linebacker more. Having a good user can help mask a lot of defensive woes. If for the future I say draft a WR. Justin Jefferson is still elite, but he’s at the point where his speed took a hit, and need to find someone who will replace him.

NFC South

Bucs: This team was built to have one of the best defenses in the game and it shows. Offense is top 5 scoring thanks to their defense forcing turnovers I would think. The QB is a physical beast. He’s no Anthony Richardson but he is up there. Why he signed Jonathan Taylor when he has an 98 ovr TreVeyon Henderson does not make much sense but it’s his team. For this upcoming draft I can see him drafting a WR as it appears to be the weakest on this team.

Falcons: I feel like a broken record for saying this about the NFC teams so far, but offensively they are set despite the low stats. They have Jayden Daniels, Bijan, Pitts, and Nelson who is a 91 ovr XF dev with 96 speed, plus their o line is solid. Defense is very good, just getting old except their D line. It’s good but it can be even better with a nice DT. I recommend drafting a DT.

Panthers: Losing Derrick Brown hurts, but their d line is still very good so I wouldn’t even be worried about that. Offense is also set to, no glaring weaknesses there. The DBs I am concerned about because of how old they are. Draft a nice CB to learn from Ward and Horn. That is probably the best way for their defense to improve and hopefully they can no longer be the worst passing defense in the game.

Saints: I cannot understand how there are so many teams with great offensive players and not perform well. No shade. With that being said I’m turning my attention to the defense. Their D line is set, their linebackers are good and young so no need to address that anytime soon. Which leaves DBs. Kool Aid is looking at the Saints organization screaming SEND HELP NOW! So send him help by drafting a new CB.

NFC West

49ers: The reigning Super Bowl Champs. The number one defense for a reason. I witnessed firsthand twice, BWO’s defense is no joke and you have to play a perfect game against him. There’s only one glaring problem on the roster, and that’s not because it’s a huge problem, it’s because everything else is set which makes the problem stand out more. Letting Josh Allen walk is a smart financial move so drafting a new QB is a must for this draft whether it is first round or last round.

Cardinals: REDACTED. Not telling you all my plans for the draft.

Rams: Great GREAT offensive roster. If this league allows team swaps like Gil wants my first pick is the Rams. Defense could be better though. D Line could use a quick fix, as does the DB room. The difference is the DBs all have high ovrs so I would say wait till next draft unless a gem falls to them. Otherwise focus on REDGE or DT.

Seahawks: I really expected this offense to be the best in the league. Goes to show that it takes more then having great players. They have all the top skill players and QB. DBs are getting older but they have a season or two left before they need to be address. O line needs help bad. No center, and most are below 70 ovr. Draft any O linemen. ANY will do.

Don Jon’s Fortune Cookie for all: Patience is a virtue, sometimes picking based on need is not always the best. Pick the best you believe available and everything will fall into place.
